The way we work

The way we work

Be it a divorce, separation, or a contact dispute, or even things such as planning to adopt a child, or remarrying, your sense of stability can be rocked.

At Oerton Simm we understand the emotional roller coaster that change can bring. All that you could previously rely on is now being challenged, and potentially changed.

Divorce and separation are known to be in the top 5 most stressful things that can happen. Add to that the risk of losing your house, or your income, or the children, and matters can become overwhelming.

The range of feelings that you will go through following on from separation are well documented. Anger, Guilt, Fear, Denial, Hope, Shame, Relief, to name but a few, make a bad situation worse, and for the time being it is difficult to cope.

And to add to it, family law can appear to be hostile, confusing, complex and vast. The language used by the Courts can appear remote, the procedures alien, and the outcome, at times, perverse and unwanted.

Even the happy things, like adopting a child or remarrying, set out in front of you legally challenging matters which you need to consider and get right.

It is important to recognise that you are not alone, that the way you feel is perfectly normal, that things will improve, and that you can regain control.

There are many different approaches that you can take and what may well be suitable for one person does not necessarily suit another.

And that is where we can help. Our ethos is simple. This is your life, not ours, and we are not here to control it for you, nor force you to do things which you are not comfortable with. We are here to listen to you, to advise you on the different approaches and options that are available to you. We are here to negotiate when you need us to, to fight when you need us to. We are here to help you to achieve the outcome that you strive for, or to tell you what you are likely to end up with if you simply do not know.

Whilst happy to take on your case and see it through from start to finish, we also aim to provide a consultative service as well as the traditional role of family lawyer. We know that legal services can be expensive, and that some people will prefer to deal with matters on their own. And why not? But sometimes, you come across a difficulty that you need advice on, such as whether you have correctly filled in some form, or what the law says about this, and that. A chat with an experienced practitioner can help sort out any queries that you may have.

We can refer you to outside help if the need arises, to life coaches, and family counsellors, to psychologists who can help you with your emotional struggles…and we ensure that whatever course you take, you are aware of all of the options available to you, and that you make informed decisions that best suit you.

We cannot work miracles. We can only help you achieve what is legally possible, and what is within acceptable parameters, but within those parameters we can help you try to make the right choices, and achieve the best outcome.

So why not give us a call and let's talk.

In short, we are here to help you make sense of family Law.
